Longview police are investigating a suspicious death that was reported Tuesday night at the Alabama Street homeless encampment.
Police and EMS were dispatched around 10 p.m. to a reported overdose in progress inside one of the camp’s tents. Captain Branden McNew said when officers arrived it was clear the victim had been dead for several hours and officers saw other “suspicious circumstances” which prompted the investigation.
The ministry’s Criminal Investigations Unit is leading the investigation. Meanwhile, the Cowlitz County Coroner’s Office examines the body.
The deceased was a woman in her thirties. McNew said officers were unable to identify the woman at the scene and were not prepared to release her name Wednesday afternoon as they were still notifying next of kin.
