Bombay, June 22 (SocialNews.XYZ) Two MPs suspected of betraying Shiv Sena escaped from the rebel camp – led by chief minister Eknath Shinde and others who had pitched a tent in a five-star hotel in Surat, Gujarat – and reached Maharashtra safely at the over the past 24 hours.

The Sena MPs who ‘escaped’ are: Kailas Patil of Osmanabad and Nitin Deshmukh of Akola, who claimed they were ‘misled and taken away against their will’ by the rebel group on Monday night.

Telling his story to Sena bigwigs, Patil said that when the group of MPs were heading to a supposed party in Thane, he sensed something was wrong when the vehicle changed its route and headed to Gujarat from Ghodbunder Road on Mira Road.

Under the guise of relieving himself, Patil managed to get off at Talasari near the Maharashtra-Gujarat border police checkpoint at this late hour, before entering the neighboring Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled state.

Taking advantage of the darkness, he started walking briskly for about five kilometers towards Mumbai, then managed to hitchhike on his bike to the state capital.

En route, Patil called Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and briefed him on the upcoming political crisis led by Shinde and others.

He eventually reached the private residence of Thackeray ‘Matoshri’ in Bandra from where he was escorted to a safe house and has remained there ever since.

Returning with a sensational ordeal of survival and escape, Deshmukh claimed to have been “kidnapped” and then taken to Surat in the rebel group that landed there overnight Monday to Tuesday.

“At around 3am on Tuesday, I managed to escape from the hotel and came out to hitch a ride with passing vehicles. I was chased by more than a hundred Gujarat police officers who prevented me from sitting in any vehicle and they forcibly took me to a hospital,” Deshmukh told media in Nagpur on Wednesday.

At the hospital, Deshmukh claimed they performed medical procedures on his body, tried to prove he had “suffered a heart attack” and gave him an injection, despite him being completely healthy.

“They treated me like a terrorist. Somehow I managed to escape from the hospital and here I am – perfectly fit and healthy, no heart problems like the police claimed,” Deshmukh said relieved.

Patil and Deshmukh reiterated that they were “of course with CM Thackeray and there was no question of them joining any anti-party activities or rebelling.

The duo could not provide an exact number of rebels who would support Shinde, although Deshmukh said “many more will come back” to Sena’s fold.

Earlier, Deshmukh’s wife had filed a missing person complaint with local police on suspicion of death threats as he could not be reached by phone after 7pm on Monday June 20.

Sena Chief Spokesman and MP Sanjay Raut drew media attention to the successful escape of the two MPs – Patil and Deshmukh – and said such treatment meted out to them was reprehensible.

Minister Shinde, who moved the camp from Surat to Guwahati in Assam, said on Wednesday he now has the support of more than 42 Sena MPs.

Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and CM Thackeray both tested positive for Covid-19, and the rebels prepared for a ‘stand-by and watch’ spell and the opposition BJP prepared to overthrow the MVA and take power.
