Here are the top 3 stories in Bedford today:

  1. New Hampshire is facing moderate to severe drought conditions, due to the heat wave in July and above normal temperatures in August with little rain expected. On Thursday, the state Department of Environmental Services recommended that local cities “enact mandatory outdoor water use restrictions.” Fifty-three percent of the state is already experiencing moderate to severe drought conditions. Municipal councils, the council of elected officials, the board of public works and local administrators “have the power to order a reduction in the watering of the landscape or the filling of swimming pools”. Nashua and Bedford already have mandatory outdoor water restrictions in place. New Hampshire farmers are already feeling the impact. You can find out more here: (DES.nh.gov)
  2. Bedford Athletic Club’s summer soccer camp is underway and the kids are already having fun. “It’s great to see so many smiling faces and thumbs up from the kids who took part in Week 1 of our summer camps,” Bedford Athletic said this week. The summer soccer camp continues next week. Week 2 of the soccer camp will take place August 15-19, with an option to attend a full day (9 a.m. – 3 p.m.) for $220, or a half day (9 a.m. – noon) for $170. You can find out more about the Summer Football Camp sessions here: (Bedford Athletic Club via Facebook)
  3. Things are looking up! New Hampshire high school students built a plane that flew at Londonderry’s PlaneFest. The Manchester School of Technology student project was carried out in partnership with educational nonprofit Tango Flight and the New Hampshire Aviation Museum. “We’re trying to look ahead and get young people interested in their future in aviation and aerospace,” said Jeff Rapsis, executive director of the New Hampshire Aviation Museum. What happens next? School officials said “the aircraft will eventually be sold on the open market and the proceeds will be used to fund more student construction in the future.” (WMUR)
